Rainbow Drive Chalet
Renovation
Details
This project started with a large addition to the Gothic arch in 1999. The owners were very attached to the original cabin as they built it themselves in the 70’s. The architect Brent Murdoch did a great job in coming up with a design that bound the old and new together perfectly. It was a challenge in terms of design and construction to create a seamless connection.
Objectives
Unfortunately, in 2014 there was a chimney fire in the original part of the cabin that caused extensive damage. The owners were faced again with the decision to keep the spirit of the old cabin alive or make way for a new house. They decided to keep the spirit of the old cabin alive.
At the same time they took the opportunity to update the general finishes, kitchen and bathrooms. Some layout improvements and an energy efficiency upgrade took place as part of the repairs due to the fire.
