Spruce Grove Passive House

The objective was to create an energy efficient, low footprint home with a modern look that would fit into an already existing subdivision. High performance envelope was modeled and prefabricated off site by BC Passive House. This was the first Energy Star rated single family WHA (Whistler Housing Authority) subsidized home in Whistler.

Northern Lights

The before and after images speak for themselves. The old master suite layout was replaced with a new floor plan which maximizes the new carved out bathroom space from reconfigured walls and strategically placed double-sided fireplace. This master suite has everything that the owners have wished for. Generous bedroom, unique bathroom, closets and separate lounge area with private desk.

Northern Lights

This master bathroom exceeded the owner's expectations. It was designed around a smartly placed 3 sided fireplace visible from every angle of the entire master suite. Traditional materials were reinterpreted and given a more modern character. The bathroom is well integrate into the renovated rest of the house as it carries the timber/wood material theme (design).

Cedar Hollow

The client approached us to remodel and increase the size of 750s.f. one bedroom, one bathroom outdated basement townhouse to 1257s.f. two bedroom, two bathroom townhouse by utilizing two crawlspaces behind and under structure.

The complex was underbuilt and extra square footage was made available within the building footprint.

Northern Lights

To accomplish this much added floor space in a townhome, radical construction methods were used. The extra floor was added to the bottom of the townhome, which added the 2 bedrooms and some of the mechanical and storage space, while the media and laundry rooms were added underneath the existing garage. To add the new floor, excavation began underneath the unit, and at the same time underneath the garage. The original garage floor was cut away to remove material to create the new space underneath. In both locations the existing foundation needed to be extended. The excavation underneath the garage went 25 feet deep in order to reach under the existing concrete. Once that was accomplished the foundation was extended. As for the lower floor, this needed more space as well, not only digging deeper into the ground but further back into the slope that the townhome was situated on, this meant cutting away the existing foundation to make room for a excavator to fit into the lowest part of the townhome to dig away the additional space needed to fit two bedrooms into the side of the slope. 

This extremely complex concrete and foundation work was only accomplished through an exceptional team of structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, our own crew and innovative methods that were developed by the team
