At Schreyer Construction, we believe in prioritizing the mental health and well-being of our team. This commitment has recently led us to implement a four-day work week, giving our employees every other Friday off. By redistributing the hours across the remaining workdays, we ensure that our projects continue seamlessly while our team enjoys much-needed time for personal pursuits. For now, we are running this schedule until the end of Summer 2024.
Why We Made the Change
Living and working in the Sea to Sky corridor, we are surrounded by natural beauty and outdoor adventures. Many of our team members moved here to enjoy the mountain lifestyle, and we want to make sure they can make the most of their choice. And the reality is, two days off is just sometimes not enough to balance personal interests, family life and household. This can be particularly challenging for young families with kids.
How It Works
In practice, this new schedule means that, except for occasional urgent matters, our team has every other Friday free for self-development, life administration, or simply resting. This flexibility empowers our employees to take control of their time and prioritize their well-being. Since all Summer statutory holidays in B.C. fall to Mondays, we tied the Friday’s off with those weekends to create four day long weekends.
Increasingly more research has shown the benefits of the four day work week, and we are ready to be part of the change. Trials across the world over the last decade show that a four day work week improves employee satisfaction and improves productivity. Reduced work days lead to more efficient prioritization of tasks, less redundant meetings, reduced levels of stress and an increase in overall happiness.
A Commitment to Well-Being
Our four-day work week is a testament to our commitment to mental health and work-life balance. By providing our team with better time flexibility, we foster a healthier, more motivated workforce. We are proud to lead by example, showing that a thriving business can also prioritize the well-being of its employees.
In the end, our team's happiness and health translate into better service for our clients and a more dynamic company culture. We are excited to continue this journey and see the long-term benefits unfold.
