In terms of energy efficiency, the original plan was to upgrade the windows and the insulation in the above ground framing. However, due to the fact that the perimeter drain of the home was failing and had to be dug up and replaced, we got the opportunity to foam insulate the entire foundation from the exterior so as to achieve superior thermal resistance. Then, the decision was made to add and exterior layer of 2” rigid Rockwool comfortboard insulation to the entire exterior so as to stop any thermal transfer through the wall assembly. By combining the upgrades of the windows, the building envelope and the mechanicals we were able to achieve and energy efficiency equivalent to a newly built Step Code 3 house.
